LAVALLETTE, N.J. — The Lavallette community is mourning the death of 56-year-old Ursula Keating of Toms River, who was killed after an SUV crashed into the outdoor dining area of Meg’s Grill on Saturday morning, September 19, 2026.

The devastating incident also left seven other people injured, according to authorities and reports concerning the crash. The collision occurred at approximately 11:12 a.m. on Grand Central Avenue, where the SUV reportedly traveled across the sidewalk before striking the restaurant.

SUV Crashes Into Meg’s Grill

According to Lavallette police, a 93-year-old Lavallette woman was attempting to park a 2014 Buick Encore near the restaurant when the vehicle apparently accelerated unexpectedly.

Police said preliminary information indicated that the driver may have pressed the accelerator instead of the brake. The SUV then moved across the sidewalk and entered the restaurant’s outdoor dining area before striking the building.

Several people who were dining at Meg’s Grill were hit in the collision. Seven patrons were transported to hospitals for medical treatment, while the driver reportedly sustained minor injuries.

Ursula Keating was among those struck and died from injuries sustained in the crash.
