A man was hospitalized in serious condition Monday afternoon following an exchange of gunfire involving a Tulsa County Sheriff’s deputy near East 41st Street and South Sheridan Road in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

According to authorities, the incident began around 12:30 p.m. when an off-duty Tulsa County Sheriff’s deputy, who was driving home, noticed a man moving in and out of traffic along East 41st Street. The deputy reportedly became concerned after observing what appeared to be a concealed object in the man’s clothing.

The deputy stopped and approached the man to conduct a pedestrian check. Authorities said the encounter escalated quickly after the man allegedly produced a firearm.

The Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office reported that gunfire was exchanged between the man and the deputy. Investigators recovered shell casings believed to have come from the man’s firearm as they worked to document the scene.

The deputy was not injured in the shooting. The man, however, was transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment and was reported to be in serious condition. His identity has not been publicly released, and authorities have not provided additional details about the extent of his injuries.

Tulsa Shooting Investigation

The shooting prompted a significant law-enforcement response along the busy stretch of East 41st Street. A portion of the roadway between South Sheridan Road and Interstate 44 was temporarily closed while investigators processed the scene and gathered evidence. The roadway has since reopened.

Authorities said the deputy initially approached the man because of concerns about his movements in traffic and what appeared to be a concealed object. The situation reportedly escalated within seconds when the firearm was allegedly produced.

No bystanders were reported injured during the exchange of gunfire. Officials said the deputy and members of the public avoided further injuries during the incident.
