Three people were wounded Monday in a shooting at an assisted-living facility in South Los Angeles, where police took an employee into custody as investigators worked to determine what led to the gunfire.

The incident occurred at Progressive Home for the Elderly in the 7000 block of Denver Avenue near West 70th Street. According to reports citing the Los Angeles Police Department and Los Angeles Fire Department, three staff members were found suffering from gunshot wounds inside the building.

Three Staff Members Injured

The victims were described as a man in his 60s and two women, one in her 40s and another in her 70s. All three were transported to hospitals for treatment.

One victim was reported to be in critical condition, while the other two were listed as stable. Their identities had not been publicly released in the latest reports.

Police officers responded within approximately two minutes of receiving the initial report. Because multiple people had been shot inside the facility, the call was upgraded to a possible active-shooter incident while officers searched the building.

Employee Taken Into Custody

The suspected shooter was also an employee at the facility. Police described the suspect as a man in his 60s and said officers located him in another part of the building before taking him into custody without additional reported gunfire.
